Helmsdale Community Centre
Dunrobin Street Helmsdale
The Community Centre is conveniently placed on the Dunrobin Street, next to the Belgrave Arms Hotel. The original building was 3 cottages and the date can be seen from the car park on the building wall.
It has undergone a transformation to provide a centre for village activities, the most radical being the recent total refurbishment to comply with current statutory regulations. It can now provide accommodation for a wide variety of activities and has a lift to all three levels, making all areas accessible for the disabled.
The Library, Service Point and District Registrar, located on the Dunrobin Street level, provide a wide range of services and Public Access Computers. The Citizens Advice Bureau provides a weekly service on Wednesdays between 1030 & 12noon. Wednesday morning is also the day for the Community Policeman. The local Development Officer has an office in the Centre and has ‘Drop-In’ sessions for Community ideas (the times are displayed in the office window). There is also provision to run Computing Classes.
There are Zumba classes twice a week and the Hairdresser also has regular days.
The over 55s Lunch Club meet three times a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 930am & 2pm. The Community Bus is used to collect those without transport. There is lunch provided (for a small charge) and a range of activities can be provided.
Many local groups hold their regular meetings eg Community Council, Gardening Club, Highland Games, First Responders group, Tennis and Badminton Club and the Grazing Committees. The Loth and Helmsdale Flower Show Society, apart from meetings and the very popular ‘Soup ‘n’ Sweet’, also have three Flower Shows during the year. (Bulb Show – March, Rose Show – July and the 2-Day Flower Show – August).
The Centre also has various Sales of Work, Craft Fairs and other Fund Raising Activities throughout the year.
It is also available to the Community for private parties, weddings, dances, birthday parties etc.
Outwith the local Community the Centre is used by other organisations eg Highland Council, NHS, for meetings, seminars, training, workshops and interviews.
For further information or to book the Centre,
please contact the Secretary.
