Helmsdale Free Church of Scotland

After the Disruption, the adherents of the Free Church were under the care of a missionary. No site could be obtained at first and the congregation worshipped in a fish-curing yard by the river. The church and manse were erected in 1845.

The foundation stone of a new church was laid on the 4th July 1890 by Principal Rainy. Built to accommodate 1,200, it was opened in 1892. The church is now too large for the present congregation and services are held in the adjoining hall.
