SPAR shop Helmsdale
On May the 31st the official opening took place of a new SPAR convenience store in Helmsdale at 2 Dunrobin Street opposite the Bridge Hotel.

Iain Sayers and Anne Kane have owned the Wayfarer restaurant and take away on the site for several years, but when the village was left with only one food shop they decided to change direction and convert the premises into a modern convenience store.
After several weeks of activity, internally and externally, with walls coming down, re-wiring, new ceilings and floors and a massive paint job to the outside the shop fitters moved in for a week and the shop opened for business on 18th April. 2 weeks later the off sales license was granted and the business is now growing well as it establishes its place in the village.

The take-away has been retained and indeed enhanced, and of course all the things customers now expect in a convenience store, including news, chilled foods and fruit and veg, are available.
