Highlands & Islands Enterprise and C.A.S.E
Highlands & Islands Enterprise and C.A.S.E extended an invitation to Helmsdale's present various Committies to attend a meeting on Wednesday 3rd February in Timespan.
This was to provide outline information on a newly planned scheme hatched jointly between these departments, which would provide a paid member of staff who would work with the various committies on a shared basis, for a period of three years. The benefits of the plan would be to help secure and substantiate Helmsdale's future viability and improve the village and its environs for the enjoyment of locals and visitors alike. The member of staff would be at the disposal of all the committies concerned in order to research any projects presented, access the availability and sources of grant aid if appropriate, make application and liase where necessary between public offices and official bodies on behalf of the various projects concerned, eg planning, building warrant and legalities, etc.
A large proportion of interested parties attended the meeting and the new scheme was welcomed by the majority of the group. Timespan has offered office space with computer and telephone facilities to accommodate the paid member of staff.
A further meeting was arranged for Wednesday 10th February, 2010 at 7.00pm in Timespan to explore the best way forward for the new arrangement and to decide which projects could be considered and prioritised. A suggestion was made regarding the improvement and reinstating of various village paths, for which grant aid was thought to be available. 'Helmsdale in Bloom' feel they may benefit from any help available. The attending members were asked to consider the new proposals and how they could be applied to their projects for improvements.
