Bannockburn Inn Helmsdale

The Bannockburn Inn offers a friendly watering hole and is indeed the local pub for the locals

Take the high road

Back in the late 1800s, Tom Mackay came from Bannockburn and established a business that is still thriving today. His desire to provide a hearty welcome for travellers and locals alike continues at the Bannockburn Inn on the A9 in Helmsdale.

Many original features from Tom Mackay's time at the Inn are still in evidence, ensuring a warm atmosphere. When stopping to recharge your batteries, what could be more inviting than some wonderful warming soup and hot baguette relaxing by an open fire or in the summer sitting outside with a cool beer and a light lunch?
Bar food is always available, and after a stop at the Bannockburn, you'll be ready to continue your journey - or maybe you might decide to stay in the village!
Situated on the beautiful east coast of Sutherland near the mouth of the Moray Firth, Helmsdale is an historic fishing village with a beautiful harbour and so much to offer the visitor. It's also a great base, being on route for Wick, John O'Groats and the Orkney Isles. Whether staying or passing through the village, include a visit to the Bannockburn Inn - you won't be disappointed.

Tom Mackay's grandson Donald Polson was chieftain of the Helmsdale Highland Games in 2001. He was proprietor of the Bannockburn Inn for 25 years and, in recognition of his happy time there, donated the Bannockburn Cup for the best local heavyweight athlete at the games.
